What does it mean to be Fashion Conscious?

If you ask consumers what it means to be fashion conscious, you will most likely receive varying opinions. Some might say fashion consciousness is solely based on wearing the latest trends. Others might say being fashion conscious is based on the type of fabric and how and where the apparel is made, i.e., sustainability. There isn't a  right or wrong answer. For Lucky Gent as a brand, we are focused on the latter.  Now, more than years past, “sustainability” has become the “go to” word in the industry. It’s fashion’s comparison to the food industry's “plant based”.

In the fashion industry, more designers are pivoting and focusing on sustainability. A documentary that sheds light on the industry is “The True Cost”.  This film documentary highlights just what fast fashion does to the environment and earth's  resources. In addition, the film articulates how cheap labor brings down the prices for consumers, increasing  consumption. As we become more educated on the real COST of the clothing industry, many designers have focused on curating pieces that are aligned with the “slow fashion” movement.

What is slow fashion? Slow Fashion is an approach to producing clothing which takes into consideration all aspects of the supply chain and in doing so, aims to respect people, the environment, and animals. We are happily integrated into the slow fashion movement. At Lucky Gent, we strive to make garment production ethical and transparent.  We are of the mindset to protect the people along with the planet by producing clothes of trendless designs that are premium and have long-lasting quality. Our items can be worn in any season. The collection has it all for those who love classic style, beauty, quality and of course sustainability.

We understand the impact we have on local and global communities. We go to great lengths to ensure the entire production is sourced here in California, both Los Angeles and San Francisco. Because our products are manufactured here, it provides the best opportunity for quality control, decreases our carbon footprint and it keeps dollars circulating within the community.  We source our fabrics globally, to ensure we are acquiring the highest quality. As we know there are a variety of fabrics on the open market for brands to create apparel. What we have decided to do is use all natural fabrics such as silk, rayon, hemp, bamboo, cotton and deadstock fitting those specific fabrics.

Our milliner is located in the greater LA area and uses fur felt hat bodies that are made in the U.S. The milliner uses leftover material to create the bands so as not to waste fabric. We align ourselves with manufactures with the same values, standards of production and ethos. Our prototypes and specialty products are made in San Francisco. Leftover material is upcycled to produce additional apparel. We continue to adhere to our business model of being a sustainable brand. Most of our apparel is made here and at each step along the path, from design, to prototype to production, they  are all produced in California communities.

Even when we ship products to our clients we use virgin, plastic free packaging made of recyclable materials. We are intentional in our efforts  from the start of production to shipping. Our branded wrapping paper is recycled.  The “Thank You” cards we send to clients are made of recycled material.  In essence we are truly a slow fashion and environmentally sustainable brand.  We are a  fashion conscious brand and we hope you support brands that are part of the slow fashion movement, and adhere to policies that  preserve the environment and communities.
